The Treccani Italian Encyclopedia Institute—long committed to promoting and protecting Italy's cultural heritage—has chosen to dedicate a new series to the Capitals of Culture. This volume, edited by Maria Cristina Rodeschini, Director of the Accademia Carrara, is dedicated to Bergamo, a city whose millennia-old history is based on fascinating cultural values, deeply rooted in the spirit of the place. It is also the city that suffered most from the pandemic and has responded with rare dignity to one of the most tragic situations in our country's recent history.
The ambition is to connect its great past with the present through the words of authors who restore the profile of a small but precious city, jealous of its traditions and at the same time interested in knowing and contributing to the most up-to-date aspects of contemporary society.
The various sections relating to architecture, landscapes and the visual arts are described through the contributions of Manuela Bandini, Mauro Ceruti, Francesco Frangi, Maria Manca, Paolo Plebani, Valentina Raimondo, Monica Resmini, Daniela Salvetti.
